Every year around the holiday season I get asked this question. Various religious groups who oppose celebrating Christmas also like to bring this verse up and claim that Jeremiah was referring to a Christmas Tree, when in fact, the Christmas Tree did not come into being until much, much later with its origins in Germany and with German Christians.
